All Scale Fly-in 2007 - Report by Reg Lowe
The sunshine was booked but unfortunately we forgot to cancel the wind. A dry sunny day but with a blustery
wind of variable direction mainly across the runway. Twenty three transmitters where booked in. Seventeen
R-R members with six visitors, I estimate at least two models for each transmitter.
The models represented a wide range of prototypes, the usual bunch of CAPS and Extras a large YAK 54
with a 3W motor, Spirit of St. Louis, Grumman F2, and a Huey UH1-B helicopter.
Electric models were in evidence Paul Harrisons Harvard and the Lancaster of David Orme flying well.
We were treated to some stunning flights by Steve Mallinder with the Yak 54 how it stays in the air during
some of the maneuvers was subject to much discussion in the pits. The Huey Helicopter flew well despite the
wind. Whist a number of models quite rightly stayed firmly on the ground the ones that flew handled the
conditions with out too many problems.
Around about lunch time, a large white van arrived, Dave Johnson had seen the sunshine and decided that the
Vulcan needed some airtime after a change of engines. Dave had two excellent flights during event and a
further one afterwards. It was impressive when first on the scene but now, with I understand more
powerful engines its even more so.
The result of the pilots voting for the awards was:-
Best Overall Model Avro Vulcan Dave Johnson
Best Civil Model Heston Phoenix Derek Martin
Best Military Model Avro Lancaster David Orme
I trust that every one attending had a good day and hope to see you at Jet Sunday Sept 9th or if
not then at next years events.
