Jet Sunday 'Fly-in' 2007 - Report by Reg Lowe
After
a terrible summer for flying weather Hucknall Airfield was blessed with good
weather for our final event of the season. A warm sunny morning and early
afternoon with little wind, later in the afternoon the sky clouded over and a
cool breeze got up but it was straight down the runway. We had twenty entries,
thirteen of whom were visitors the remainder being R-R members. I would estimate
that there where approximately thirty models in the pits.
After
a slow start there were aircraft in the air for most of the time. A part from a
couple of models taxing into the grass there was only one incident, due entirely
to pilot error, the pilot hearing his Transmitter bleeping assumed that it was
his time signal, unfortunately it was a low battery warning and inevitably all
control was lost and the model reduced to three bin bag size, The engine was in
one piece. The Transmitter battery had
been fast charged after flying the previous day.
Be warned it could happen to you!
The
finish and colour schemes of the ‘factory built’ models are superb but two
scale models, which I believe were both scratch built are worthy of mention, the
Lightning F Mk 1A of Ian Wilde
built by Mark Handley and the F86 Sabre of Geoff Leigh which after a series of
problems did eventually get a successful flight.
The
best flight award was given to Colin Gardner for his flights with a Firebird or
is it a semi. scale Euro Fighter Typhoon, from almost hovering or flying very
slowly to some very fast passes with aerobatics in between.
Dave
Johnson won the best Military model Award with his usual superb flying of his
Vulcan.
Two
awards were made for the best sport model, the vote being tied, the Bandit of
Andy Sheldon and the Eurosport (a
civil Euro fighter?) of Andy Hetherington.
The
standard of flying was very high. Despite it being a non-spectator event I
counted over 30 spectators cars.
The result of the pilots voting for the awards was:-
Best Military Model Avro Vulcan Dave Johnson
Best Flight Firebird Colin Gardner
Joint Best Sport Model Bandit Andy Sheldon Joint Best Sport Model Eurosport Andy Hetherington Reg Lowe Competition Secretary R-R (Hucknall )MAC

Surly they did not put on a mass scramble just for the effect.............
I missed the event Myself....... due to a family double booking, but I understand from fellow club members that some 80 vehicles, and a flightline of 30 models were present at this years event. I personally was hoping for a visit from that awesome Electric A380 that was scheduled to be there (family commitments...... huh).
If anyone has any video footage of the day I would be grateful, along with any additional photos are always appreciated. I will add model details as I receive them back from Reg from the event entry forms (you see there is a reason for them). Until then, if you want to name them for me, I can add that info next to the photos.
These pictures form Chris Foster and Dave Burgin.
Any comments about the last of this years 'non public' events would be welcome as always...........
Some of the comments I have already heard are........ "Best show at RR Hucknall for years", "Worth the four hour trip to be here", "Book me in for next years event", "The most relaxed and friendly show I have flown at this year", "I should have charged my Transmitter battery" and " Wish I had not double booked myself". Webmaster.

How are we expected to put on a flying display, when
we cannot even sit down un-aided?
This pilot claims to have a BMFA 'A' certificate in 'Advanced walking and sitting whilst holding your forehead' technique. |
