Events planning meeting 2012

There is a gathering of minds at the first events meeting of 2012 to discuss this years events and their format.

It will be held on January 17th @ 8;00p.m in the Rolls Royce welfare club as usual. Come along if you have any ideas, comments or want to help run the events.

      Reg Lowe - Events Director.

Club membership for 2012

Your BMFA insurance ran out on 31st December. You need to renew it for 2012 or you are not allowed to fly at Hucknall airfield.

You ONLY need to complete a Rolls Royce MAC membership application form if any personal details have changed.

You ONLY need to complete a BMFA application form if your personal details have changed.

If you want to start paying your BMFA fees through this club (for the first time this year), all we need from you is your BMFA number, and your payment, no other forms.

ore details in the 'Members Only' section of this site. Remember to take proof of BMFA membership payment whenever you go flying, as any member of the committee can ask you for it and stop you flying without it.

Booking the airfield - out of normal working hours

Recently we have had flyers turned away by security gate staff, because the had been no booking. It is a stipulation of Rolls Royce, that prior arrangement is made for any access - After all, we are travelling through a commercial property and on to a live airfield that is used by the Police, the Fire service and visiting full sized aircraft.

If you have your BMFA, and are going to pay your club funds to me soon, and booked the airfield with the RR Office during working hours or the RR fire station, then you can fly at anytime within the guidelines of the club rule book.
It will be the RR staff that take your booking that will accept or deny access to the airfield. Details and phone numbers are on this club web site under the 'Members Only' pages and in your club rule book.

Happy new Year folks - Don't forget that after today, without a valid BMFA membership, you cannot fly insured, ANYWHERE. Normally, folk pay their club fees at the first meeting in January, so there are a few days of grace between 31st December and that meeting for your club fees to be paid (NOT BMFA)

 Annual General Meeting -  2011

The Annual General Meeting of the Rolls-Royce Model Aero Club was held on Tuesday 6th December commencing at 8 p.m.   Go to the 'Members Only' pages to see all of the 2011 AGM agenda and meeting details. The meeting notes for that AGM will soon be posted in that area soon.

General Fly in  - September 24th and 25th 2011

Our final event of the year was a 'BMFA member only' event, not open to the general public but anyone holding a BMFA card and their guests were welcome. Weather on the Saturday was a bit gusty but due to the fact that not all of the models were turbine powered we had a fair showing of models in the air all of the time.  Sunday was not as good.  It rained for a fair amount of the day....  same, but we did have some flying in the dry intervals.

A highlight of this this event was the BBMF fly-past. The the last remaining airworthy Avro Lancaster displayed a three pass fly=past at 100 feet. It was so low, that nobody in Hucknall, except at our event, saw the plane.  They heard it and wondered what it was. Even hardened Airshow  spectators said that they had never been more impressed by a fly-past.....

There was a Swapmeet on the Sunday again, and a raffle with relevant prizes too. A good few hundred pounds worth of prizes were given out on the Sunday, with RR-MAC ad other modellers being the eventual winners.

I know that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be checking these pages out...  big thanks for their staff for attending two of our events this year. Here's hoping for all three next year.

Scale and Jet weekend - 2011

The second event combined our usual 'Jet weekend' normally held in September and our 'All scale event'. This gave a wider scope of models that could take part. This event was well attended, with the weather being very kind to us. The event was open to the general public, and a fair few new faces were seen on the airfield.

 Electric Fly in  - 2011

The weather during the event was not too kind to us.  Nice and sunny, but a bit on the gusty side.  Didn't really stop the fun though, and both days were pretty full of flying.  The BBMF Spitfire made an appearance on Sunday the 5th. I have already telephoned, and emailed the ops team with my thanks and comments. The Raffle appeared popular, getting enough cash back to cover the prizes, and to buy goods for the next raffle in July. The Swapmeet also saw a good number of sellers, and trade seamed to be taking place.

Some Raffle prizes were kindly donated by R/C supplier on eBay, after we bought the rest of the electronic prizes from them.  Nilesinstall RC  also gave us a discount on a bulk club purchase, and combined the postage to make it more viable - check them out by clicking their name above. Another supplier, a little more local to the club is Handy Heat. They supply nearly all of the UK modelers needs for Depron. They have kindly donated sheets of 6mm and 3mm Depron, along with tubes of Uhu Por. Click on their name above for details.

 Web page viewing problems ?

A few folk have commented that the updated web pages don't always show the new text. This will almost certainly be because your web browser is not checking for the most up to date version of the page. As you look at a page, or go to an existing link, your computer looks at the name of the page or file, and says to itself.. "I have already seen that page, and have a copy of it in my history, so it will be quicker to display that".  This is all very well until you view a page that is always being updated... like   www.Hucknall-mac.org.

Bear this in mind  when you enter the new password into our secured pages. If the view you have of the page is from before I changed the password and you enter the new one, you won't gain access.

All you need to do when you visit this site, is press the [F5] button on your keyboard. this will force the page you are looking at to display the latest version of it.   For more details Google   'Cached web pages'

 Club contacts

If you need to contact any of the club committee or trainers, their names and contact details are available on either the 'Officials' link on the left hand menu, or on the 'Members Only' pages. Please contact them directly, rather than email the Webmaster...  as I do not really want to be passing messages on every few days (for the sake of finding the correct person). It may appear petty, but my task should be to add newsworthy information to the web site for other club members to read.

2012 Show questions to Reg Lowe, Club membership questions and apologies for meetings to Paul Harrison, Finance queries to Alan Randall. Safety info to Paul Harrington. Web and Forum stuff to Paul Harrison, Overall club questions to our Chairman, Brian Wilson.

Thanks - Webmaster

We will continue to develop this site for radio control model aircraft enthusiasts in the Nottingham area.

Our flying home enjoys a tarmac runway to die for. On 'cross wind' days, a lot of our aircraft can take off at right angles to the runway... it is that wide (although landing is more of a trial). Our airfield is currently the home to the famous Rolls-Royce aero engine manufacturer, and we have close links with the company.  This web site uses the official RR web site colours too.

These pages serve both club members, and anyone that may stumble across it from wherever they may reside. Club events including subsequent photographs and reports will be posted when appropriate. Tips that we have discovered, and links to other useful sites will can easily accessed from here, making it a first point of call for all of your flying needs.

This Web site will comply with recognised standards, and so is best viewed using 'Internet Explorer' at a screen resolution of 1024x768. This will allow more of the text to be read on one page before you need to scroll down. If you press the [F11] button, the annoying top menus, and the irrelevant bottom text will not be shown. Just press [F11] again to return to normal viewing. To navigate the pages, I have simplified the grey menu bar on the left to include only "Top level" subjects. Each item can be used to drill down to a more detailed menu if the subject matter becomes larger than a page full, or where splitting it is easier to navigate.

Under-lined text on any page will be a link to some other page, or initiate another task.  Hover your mouse over this text to read where the link will take you (at the bottom of the page). Click on the text and you will be taken to that page or link. Updated page will be highlighted by a icon. If I have emailed you to let you know of web page updates, but you cannot see the changes on your computer, press your [F5] button to refresh your browser. Your computer may be storing out of date pages to speed up its web browsing. Check those settings to ensure that always get up to date web pages.

Please email me with any comments or articles for inclusion on these pages. You will of course be credited for your work (if you wish) even if you are not a club member. There is no reason why you should not have your say or make a contribution to this site.

Thanks for the comments already received about these new pages and the layout of the same. I will listen to adverse comments too.

Why not make this site one of your book marked favorites, and pop back for another look soon.   Enjoy.............

A forum (on the internet) is a place where interested parties start off a conversation (or subject matter) and invite other interested readers to reply to the thread (subject) or comment on it. the thread goes on and on until quite an in-depth topic is developed.

Hucknall-mac forum   Subject topics can be totally R/C aircraft related, or other loosely related topics. These can be subjects that can be open to be read by any member of the public, meaning that a user does not need to log in or be registered to glean the information from them, or requiring any potential reader to first sign up with the club, ensuring that only private conversations within the club are posted. Of course the entire forum can be made up of both kinds of postings... each subject matter potentially being moved in and out of security areas as the topic develops.

Anything that you think might be a nice subject matter, or whatever,  let me know, and we can discuss it, add it or just laugh. This facility will be of no use if nobody looks at it or adds their own comments to it.  Little more work will be done to the forum pages until more club members register and have a go at it. We don't want to waste any more time if it is not going to be used by anyone.

Forum Security

If the subject is in the secure area, then ONLY registered users can add a topic or reply to an existing one. Anyone requesting registration will be looked at by the webmaster or forum administrator, names checked for Hucknall-mac membership, and then an authorisation email sent to the user granting their entry.

When a club member leaves, we can remove their rights to be able to post and contribute to the Forum, as well as persistent trouble making posts.

If anyone sees an improper posting, be it swearing or anything else that you are not happy being associated with, they can report it and we can get it removed immediately, or the offending word edited by the moderators.

Registering

If you are happy with the ways forum work, and want to register for the Hucknall-mac forum, click here   Forum registration  If you just want to take a look, without registering yet, click here   Forum index  There will of course be a short cut on these pages to save you having to bookmark this on your web browser. Make sure you read all of the instructions to enable you to register easily.  simply read the notes an "Terms of use", and then click the button that says [ I agree to these terms ]. Make yourself a username....  this could be a nickname or your own name. enter your current email address (this is where your registration confirmation will be sent to). enter a password to the site (make a note of it if you cannot remember it) and enter the confirmation code (written in the brown graphic box).  Click the Submit button and then wait for your email to come from the Administration team.

Posting notification

If you particularly are interested in a thread (or all of them) you can add a notification option, this means that if anyone adds a comment to the forum, you will receive an email stating that a new posting is there.

Scenario One - Imagine if your thinking of going flying on a Saturday, but your normal flying buddy is away for the weekend....  Post a thread saying "Flying on Sat Dec 26th ? ".  anyone saying "Yes I might come along" will instigate an email to everyone that says they would like notifying. Now we all know that at least two of us are flying..... and that might spark some other interest from pilots not sure if anyone else will be there.

Scenario Two - Imagine if your thinking of going flying on a Tuesday. As you know, we need to contact the Rolls Royce airfield to book the runway, but you don't know if anyone else wants to fly that day.  So, call RR, check availability of the airfield, book it and then post a thread saying   "Flying today Tues Dec 22nd - Airfield booked ".   Anyone registered to the "Topic" will gat an email saying that, and all you need to do is post a reply "Yes I will come along, what time are you thinking?"   We will all get both emails, and know that its worth nipping out of work for an hour. We all know that at least two of us are flying..... and that might spark some other interest from pilots not sure if anyone else will be there. If we all post a similar reply all the better, if not at least we know that there are two other pilots at the airfield.
