Merlin Flying Club Events - 2010

The Merlin Flying Club has updated its website with details of the two events it will be running this year.

Naturally, there will be no model flying on either day.

RRHMAC members are welcome on both days although only the Merlin Pageant is a public event.

The first event, on Saturday 19 June, is the Merlin Pageant, billed as a Day of Classic Wings and Wheels.  The link is: http://www.merlinflyingclub.co.uk/pageant.html

This is a public event with the gates open from 10:00 and flying at 14:00.  Entry is £5 with under 16’s free.

This is Merlin’s annual air display which used to be held together with R-R Hucknall’s Open Day.  However, as there is no Hucknall Open Day it is purely a Merlin event.

So far the aircraft expected to participate include Merlin’s Pitts and C150 Aerobat, the BBMF Hurricane & Spitfire, a Mustang and the Yakovlevs Aerobatic Display Team.  The Yakovlevs always put on a good show and can be found at: http://www.yakovlevs.com).

There will be several other additional participating aircraft.  Keep an eye on Merlin’s website for the latest.

The second event, on Saturday 21 August, is the Robin Hood Fly-in and the link is: http://www.merlinflyingclub.co.uk/robinhood.html

This used to be the local fly-in of the East Midlands Strut of the PFA (Popular Flying Association; now the LAA - Light Aircraft Association).  However, the event is now run by Merlin for pilots and enthusiasts living mainly in local area.  A good attendance of private and club aircraft can be expected with flying events and some fun on the ground such as bicycle jousting.

Thanks in advance for your help, Paul.

Dear All,

I will shortly be sending our annual letter to Merlin and I will confirm our dates and also that there will be no model flying on their days.  We’ve discussed the possibility of model flying in the past.  Whilst it is theoretically possible it does pose a risk with so much full-size activity, especially with pilots who are not familiar with either the airfield and the model flying activity.

Kind Regards to all

John Kabut
